Institutional BioSafety Committee (IBC)
The mission of the Duke University IBC is to:
1)
ensure that all recombinant DNA research conducted at the
institution or sponsored by the institution is conducted in
compliance with the National Institutes of Health Recombinant
DNA Guidelines, and
2) ensure that protocols of research involving Select Agents
(defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention),
including but not limited to recombinant DNA, are reviewed and
found to comply with all national, state, and local requirements.
Scheduled Meetings
IBC Members:
The
Duke IBC membership
includes individuals representing a variety of scientific
disciplines. This diverse group was selected to provide
the appropriate oversight of the various types of rDNA research
conducted at Duke. The Committee is
currently co-chaired by Dr. Wayne Thomann, Assistant Clinical
Professor, Dept. of Community & Family Medicine, Director,
Occupational & Environmental Safety, and Dr. Richard Frothingham,
Associate Professor, Dept. of Medicine - Infectious Diseases,
Safety Officer, Human Vaccine Institute.
