Yeung

Yeu-Li took on the challenge of implementing a program in the clinics and other ambulatory areas similar to the lift program in the hospitals.  With very short notice she put together a “Falls Prevention Champion” curriculum for the ambulatory clinics and has already trained nearly 100 “champions.” These champions will be responsible for rolling out falls prevention in the clinics to identify those patients at risk for falls.  Training includes safe body mechanics and awareness of lift equipment that could further help with the falls prevention initiative.  Yeu-Li was required to pull this program together without warning and with a very tight timeline.  She did so without complaint, with her usual high level of energy and enthusiasm, and while still performing her regular job duties.  This project required a great deal of planning and teamwork involving PT/OT, the PDCs, Hospital Education, and Nursing Administration.  Yeu-Li’s efforts not only enhance the importance of our safety department but also demonstrate that Duke remains a leader in the health care industry in protecting staff and patient safety.
