Guidelines for Mercury Thermometer Exchange Program

OESO EP initiated a thermometer exchange program several years ago. If you have mercury thermometers that you would like to exchange, please email or call Environmental Programs (EnvPrograms@mc.duke.edu or 684-2794) with a request for an exchange. Please provide information regarding the type (total immersion or partial immersion), size, and temperature ranges of the thermometers that you wish to exchange. If an equivalent thermometer is available, your new thermometers will then be dropped off and the mercury thermometers will be removed. However, if no equivalent is available, OESO Environmental Programs will direct you to vendors where non-mercury thermometers can be pruchased.

To dispose of mercury thermometers, label as a Waste Mercury Thermometer, date, and submit them as waste.
