Lab Safety Update Training

All laboratory employees are required to complete lab safety training on an annual basis!   The content of the program emphasizes recent safety Audit findings and regulatory changes and policies.

Site-Specific Laboratory Training

  • Site-specific sessions allow the instructor to address particular hazards in detail, while demonstrating appropriate safety practices on-site.  Laboratories should contact OESO and request that specific hazards (i.e. proper handling of hydrofluoric acid) be discussed in detail.  In general, on-site discussions are the most useful forms of training for those employees with a basic understanding of safety.  All annual laboratory safety training requirements are met by the site-specific format.

Proper Shipment of Biological Materials Training

  • It can be quite confusing when choosing which of the numerous guidelines and regulations to follow when shipping diagnostic and/or infectious specimens.  This class covers the shipper's responsibilities, shipment classification, and proper packaging and labeling of shipments.  All laboratories shipping biological materials are required to designate at least one representative to attend training every two years.
