FY 2021 Employee of the Year

Angie Vreugdenhil-Hayslette- Laboratory Safety

Angie used her programming skills to automatically pull information from 1000+ OESO approval forms (in PDF format) into a spreadsheet that will be submitted with the PD. This involved reviewing multiple iterations of output to identify words to be included in or excluded from the final result and then programming those inclusions/exclusions into the algorithm. Angie did much of this work on nights and weekends since the computational demands of “reading” through all those documents made it impossible for her computer to handle other tasks at the same time. The result is a comprehensive appendix for the PD completed almost 100% by Angie, PLUS we now have an algorithm that can be utilized to prepare for future AAALAC visits, with minimal staff time needed. In addition to her focus on the above-mentioned tasks, Angie has kept up with her other work supporting research laboratories at Duke and contributing to various Lab Safety team efforts.
