Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP)

  • An EEP is an inclusive pdf document per building or unit and is formatted for compliance with the North Carolina Fire Code.
    • Each plan contains 5 parts:
      • Part I – General Fire Plan: same for all buildings with generalized information
      • Part II – Fire and Life Safety System Components: specific safety information for each building
      • Part III – Response to Fire Emergencies: evacuation plan for each building or unit
      • Part IV – Maps: Emergency Assembly Point(s) on overhead map and/or Horizontal Evacuation Diagram
      • Part V – Lockdown Plan: Included as approved by authority having jurisdiction
  • The plans are organized in Duke Box by geography, function, and floor/area, if required:
    • Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery areas will have area specific plans – e.g. 3200, ASC, or 5400
    • All others will have a single building plan for the entire building
    • Searchable by DU# and Name
  • Print the document, place in designated binder, and review on a recurring basis.
  • If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to the Fire Safety Office at firesafety@duke.edu or 919-684-5609.
