Why do I have to take safety training?
The purpose of the Duke Safety Training Program is to provide employees with the knowledge and tools necessary to reduce the risks associated with their work responsibilities to the lowest possible level. Safety training programs are developed in response to federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation agency requirements and institutional needs. See Safety Training Policy for more details.
-
How is my required training determined?
Requirements are based on your job responsibilities and potential occupational exposures. See Safety Training Policy for more details. How often do I get notified when my training is going to expire?
Email notifications from OESO are sent 30 days and 7 days in advance of a training due date, and the day after the due date has passed (if the training has not already been completed). After that, an email notification is sent on the first day of the month every month until the training has been completed. An email is also sent the first Monday after a training requirement has been added to an employee’s profile.

Is all training available online?
Most training is available on-line. Training not offered online is considered "hands-on" such as fire extinguisher training. There are also items listed under your required training that are “hands-on” activities such as vaccinations.
If a training course or activity is not available online and it is listed under your required training, follow the instructions or call the number listed to set up the "live" training/activity session. In the example below, the Tdap Vaccine requirement is due by 10/01/13. Employee Health should be called at 684-3136 if you have questions regarding the vaccine/to set up an appointment to receive the vaccine.
