A/BSL3 High Containment Laboratories

Animal/Biosafety Level 3 (A/BSL-3), or high containment, is used for working with biological materials that could cause serious or potentially lethal disease through the inhalation route of exposure. A/BSL-3 laboratories and animal housing areas are built with special engineering controls and other features that enable researchers to safely and securely work with such organisms. In order to work at A/BSL-3, personnel must undergo specific classroom and hands-on training as well as meet occupational health requirements. These facilities have several safeguards in place to facilitate important research while keeping the researchers and the community safe.
